Show choir gears up to kick off its season
ONA -- The Cabell Midland High School show choir, Rhythm in Red, will kick off the 2013 season with its annual Winter Wonderland dinner and show on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 17 and 18.
Both shows will start at 6 p.m. with dinner in the school cafeteria followed by a performance in the auditorium. Tickets are $20 and include the meal, which is beef and chicken the first night and pasta the second night.
Leslie Riedel, the show choir's director, said this year's show is called "Beauty." Its message is that people are beautiful and life can be what you make of it.
This year's squad has 44 singers and dancers, 15 instrumentalists and 10 on stage crew.
Last year, Rhythm in Red finished as first runner-up at the state competition, just 2.5 points behind the state champion.
"When we came back in August, our seniors said, 'We want the state title,'" Riedel said. "The attitude has been whatever it takes."
The competition season starts Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Tri-State Show Choir Competition in Portsmouth, Ohio.
