WHAT: Canaan Valley Resort State Park's new Tube Park
WHERE: Canaan Valley in Davis, W.Va. (about 31/2 to 4 hours northeast of Huntington)
WHEN: Open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday
MORE FAMILY FUN: Other non-skiing action at the state park includes: An ice skating rink that is open noon to 8 p.m. Monday -Thursday with extended hours on weekends. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing features a 30 km groomed trail and is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There's also airboarding as well at Canaan.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides are also new to Canaan Valley Resort in 2013. Rides can accommodate 5-8 individuals. The sleigh ride experience is operated by Mountain Trail Rides. The sleigh runs are on natural snow and dependent upon weather.
IN THE AREA: Next door to Canaan Valley is the family-owned Timberline Four Seasons Resort, which has the south's longest beginner run Salamander, that is two miles long. Go online at www.timberlineresort.com .
