Woman's Club sponsors Young People's Concert

Pianist Christianna Dixon won the 52nd Young People's Concert open competition for soloists and will be performing with the Marshall University Symphony Orchestra.

HUNTINGTON -- A Huntington High student was chosen as the winner at the Woman's Club of Huntington's 52nd Young People's Concert open competition for soloists Jan. 13 at Marshall University.

Christianna Dixon, a student from Huntington High School, played Piano Concerto No. 27, K 595 3rd Movement by Mozart. Dixon was accompanied by her teacher, Mila Markun, and received $150 from the club and will play with the Marshall University Symphony Orchestra.

She will perform for the Young People's Concert at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center. Fifth-grade students from Cabell and Wayne counties, plus private and homeschool, are invited to attend.

Lena Williams, a student from Ironton High School, received honorable mention, playing Concerto for Clarinet in f minor, 1st Movement by C.M. Weber.

Matthew Moning, a homeschooled student from Ironton; Ethan Shin from Charleston Catholic Middle School; Sylvia Zhang from Hurricane High School; Jonathan Shin from Capital High School; and Nathan Shin from Capital High School also auditioned.

It was open to all students in middle school and higher from West Virginia and the Tri-State region.
