Superintendent Phares to visit Cabell County schools

Feb. 18, 2013 @ 12:15 AM

HUNTINGTON -- State Superintendent of Schools Jim Phares will visit Cabell County Tuesday, Feb. 19, as a guest at the school board meeting at 5 p.m. in the boardroom at 2850 5th Ave., Huntington.

Cabell County Superintendent William Smith said they wanted to have an informal discussion with Phares about some of the initiatives that are currently being discussed. That includes the balanced calendar that is currently being proposed and the incubator elementary school that is in the planning stage for when Peyton and Geneva Kent are brought together after Beverly Hills Middle consolidates into the new Huntington East Middle School.

The school board also will discuss changing some meeting dates. There will be a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, to comply with state deadlines on personnel. Smith is recommending that the March 5 and 19 meetings been canceled and, instead, a meeting be held Tuesday, March 12.
