Wayne Middle School quiz bowl team wins regional history bowl

MILTON -- Wayne Middle School Team Two -- comprised of Kyle Powers, Sammy Riniti, Kendal Turley and Branty Wilson -- won the West Virginia Division of Culture and History's Region 2 tournament for the 2013 West Virginia History Bowl.

They outlasted Milton Middle School, which hosted the tournament on Feb. 23. That second-place team included Ella Cooper, Cheylan Lewis, J.D. Marcum and Jasen Thaxton.

Region 2 includes schools in Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo and Wayne counties. Other schools with teams in the competition included: Beverly Hills and Huntington middle schools, Cabell County; Burch, Gilbert, Matewan and Williamson middle schools, Mingo County; Crum and Fort Gay middle schools, Wayne County; Duval Elementary and Middle schools, Lincoln County; Chapmanville Middle School, Logan County; Hannan High School, Wahama Junior/Senior High School, Mason County; and St. Joseph Catholic School, Cabell County.

The winning team will compete at the state tournament on April 30, in Charleston.
