Clay Center's Family Fun Day celebrates Easter and spring

CHARLESTON -- The Clay Center invites families to hop in from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, for its annual "Eggstravaganza."

The family fun day will have participants thinking spring with egg decorating and egg hunting, a relay race and more.

Special activities include:

Bunny ears, noon-4 p.m.

Egg decorating, noon-4 p.m. (2 eggs for $1; supplies limited)

Easter bunny appearance, noon, 2 and 4 p.m.

Egg toss, 12:30 p.m.

Egg hunt (ages 6 and younger), 1 and 3 p.m.

Egg hunt (ages 7-12), 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Egg-citing science demos, 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

Egg relay race, 2:30 p.m.

Eggstravaganza is sponsored by W. Shane Holmes, DDS, MDS Orthodontist.

While at the Center, put on your hard hat and construction vest and explore the concepts of design, motion and simple machines in "Little Builders," the latest traveling exhibit in the Mylan Explore-atory.

Then, journey through the galaxy in the planetarium show "The Planets," and plunge 12,000 feet underwater in the giant screen film "Volcanoes of the Deep Sea." Plus, visit the art gallery to see exhibits featuring beautiful quilts and amazing lithographs.

All Eggstravaganza activities, except egg decorating, are included in museum gallery admission, which is free for Clay Center members or $6 for children and $7.50 for adults. Films and planetarium shows are additional. For more information, visit www.theclaycenter.org or call 304-561-3570.

Here are some Easter events we have already received:

Easter Fun Day, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Chesapeake United Methodist Church, 2nd Avenue and 5th Street. Free pictures with the Easter Bunny will be offered along with Easter crafts and games, including decorating Easter eggs. Weather permitting, an Easter egg hunt will be held outside for children of all ages. Hot sandwiches and refreshments will be served, all free of charge.

2nd Annual Great Easter Egg Hunt, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 2150 Mount Vernon Road, Hurricane. The hunt is for infants through children in fifth grade. This is a free community-wide event, rain or shine, with hot dogs, inflatables, games, crafts, prizes, and fun. Call 304-757-9110.

Pancake Breakfast with Easter Bunny, 8-11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, Milton Baptist Church, 1123 Church St., Milton. Tickets available at the church office or on Wednesday nights. More information, call 304-743-3461. Sponsored by Wednesday Night J.A.M. Children.

Charlie's Easter Egg Hunt, noon-3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, Charlie's Harley-Davidson, 408 4th St., Huntington. There will be an egg hunt with door prizes and pictures with the Easter Bunny. Call 304-523-1340.

Kindred Communications, 93.7, the Dawg's annual Easter Eggs Hunt, 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, on the Cabell County Courthouse lawn. 10,000 prize-filled eggs. Sponsored by Cabell County Commission and 93.7, the Dawg.

Eggstravagant Easter Egg Hunt, noon-2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, Hurricane Church of Christ, 600 Midland Trail, Hurricane. There will be food, games, egg coloring, egg relays, face painting and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
