Chesapeake bed & breakfast opens
CHESAPEAKE, Ohio — Chateau D’Italia, a new bed and breakfast in Chesapeake with public dining, celebrated its opening last week with a six- course dinner party.
The dinner included a six-course meal featuring salad, antipasto, Italian meatballs, homemade bread, Italian wedding soup, pasta and a red velvet tiramisu. There was also live music.
In addition to being available to vacationing couples, the house will be available for private dining parties. Co-owner Toni Karle is planning on having two public dinner parties a month. Guests need to call ahead.
Dinner parties consist of a six-course meal served family style, table d’hôte (meaning a multi-course meal with only a few choices at a fixed price).
Customers with special dining needs should also call ahead. There will be one seating from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. These dinner parties cost $20 per person, plus sales tax and gratuity.
“This house was actually my daughter’s home,” said Karle, who runs the bed and breakfast with her husband David. “She left to get a master’s degree in Cleveland, and it’s quite expensive to keep a home mortgage up and pay rent. I’ve always had a passion for cooking. So this was the perfect location. It has a spot where we can offer a restaurant-style dining area, and it provides a private little spot for guests looking for a weekend getaway. If you could see the back of the place, it’s gorgeous.”
The dining was something Karle experienced in Italy.
“It’s a full six- to seven-course family style meal where we bring the bowls and plates and everyone passes them around,” Karle said. “It’s a great way for people to socialize and get to know each other. It also makes it a little easier for the wait staff.”
The house features a large loft bedroom ideal for couples on the go. Guests will also have home-cooked breakfasts and the option for a massage.
The next public dinner party is planned for March 2, followed by a Saint Patrick’s Day party March 9.
Chateau D’Italia is located at 1293 Township Road 158 in Chesapeake, Ohio. There is no standard set of hours. Customers can call to find out when the next public dinner party is. Cash and check are accepted.
