Children in daily battle with cancer given chance to laugh and play

HUNTINGTON -- More than a dozen children got to take a break from focusing on their cancer treatments and focus on fun last week at the Hoops Family Children's Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center.
With help from The Pottery Place in Huntington, the For A Day Foundation Huntington Chapter and Huntington Middle School's Student Council, children who face a battle with cancer on a daily basis were able to paint, laugh and play.
Laya Hutchison, owner of The Pottery Place, said she looks forward to the annual event.
"This may be an event for the children, but I always receive so much from being around them and bringing them something fun," Hutchison said in a release.
Children painted ornaments that will become pieces of pottery after a run through the kiln at The Pottery Place. Additionally, local musician Andy Rivas performed and more than one dozen students from the Huntington Middle School Student Council helped decorate pottery for the children.
Volunteers from the Huntington chapter of the For A Day Foundation provided gingerbread houses for the children to decorate and enjoy.
The Hoops Family Children's Hospital is a 72-bed children's hospital within a hospital located at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
