Kindergartners study science
MILTON -- Kindergarten students at Milton Elementary have been studying the wonders of science this year thanks to the support of several organizations.
The school has received a donation from Home Depot, a grant from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and $543 through the Donors Choose website.
The money is being used to enhance inquiry-based science projects, with students studying six simple machines. Sara Stratton, who teaches the class, and her aide, Debra Saunders, said the students are gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of basic engineering concepts, the purpose of simple machines and how they help people.
Students also used PVC piping to construct a small house.
Through all their work, the students were introduced to a variety of new vocabulary, boosting their language arts skills while gaining hands-on math and science experience, the teachers said.
