Applications for a $1,200 Adam Johnson Memorial Scholarship being accepted
HUNTINGTON -- Applications are being accepted for the Adam Johnson Memorial Scholarship.
This year, there are three $1,200 scholarships available to students who are dealing with adversity in their lives. In the past five years, there have been 15 scholarships awarded to the tune of $23,000.
First priority will be given to students living in a 30-mile radius of Huntington. Students who live outside the 30-mile radius are eligible but must be attending a higher education institution within 30 miles of Huntington. Recipients can attend any college or university.
Interviews will begin in April and scholarships will be awarded at the end of May.
The application packet includes a general form; academic transcripts; copy of high school diploma or GED certificate (if applicable); a 250-word essay on your life challenges and how you have or intend to overcome, plus short- and long-term goals; two recommendation forms submitted by such people as instructors, academic counselors or employers and must be submitted by the person writing the letter.
Applicants also must have at least a 2.5 grade point average, must be enrolled in at least 10 credit hours if attending college and must use scholarship for a licensed or certified program.
