Local student marches in Presidential Inauguration parade

HUNTINGTON -- Thomas E. Drown, who is from Huntington and now attends the Virginia Military Institute, was among the cadets that marched in the Jan. 21 Presidential Inauguration parade in Washington, D.C.

Drown, who is a senior history major, also was named to the dean's list for the fall 2012 semester.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry M. Drown.

The cadets' participation marked the 14th time that the VMI Corps of Cadets has marched in a parade.

Local students graduate from WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- More than a dozen students from the Tri-State graduated from West Virginia University following the fall 2012 semester.

They include, from Cabell County: Mathew Aldridge of Lesage, Ololade Olatunji of Huntington, Howard Richards of Huntington and Susan Welch of Huntington.

From Mason County: Matthew Douthit of Point Pleasant, Leah Eddy of Point Pleasant and Justin Lewis of Letart.

From Putnam County: Zachary DeWitt of Hurricane, Michael Harmon of Scott Depot, Kayla Horton of Hurricane, Nicholas Mohebbi of Hurricane, Courtney Robertson of Winfield, Zachary Santer of Poca, Leslie Shamblin of Poca, Justin Shirkey of Winfield, Clinton Smith of Hurricane, Eric Smithberger of Scott Depot and Douglas Ward of Hurricane.

From Wayne County: Erica Gilkerson of Kenova.
