Upcoming gospel shows to feature plenty of variety
HUNTINGTON -- If a variety of contemporary gospel music speaks to your ears and soul, then you have plenty of opportunities this week.
The Dove Award winning group The Martins will perform Thursday, March 7, at Christ Temple Church, 2400 Johnstown Road, Huntington. The group will be joined by Christian comedian Chonda Pierce. The show will start at 7:30 p.m.
General admission tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. There are discounts available for groups of 10 or more and children ages 5 and under get in free.
The Martins are a Grammy-nominated sibling trio, promoting their latest recording, "New Day." The albums was produced by Jay DeMarcus of country superstars Rascal Flatts. The Martins rose to fame in the 90s touring with the Gaither Homecoming concert series. The group has won six Dove Awards from the Gospel Music Association, earned a Grammy nomination and had multiple hit songs.
Chonda Pierce has entertained audiences from coast to coast for more than a decade. She is a stand up comic, television hostess and author. Her 10th comedy DVD, "I'm Kind of a Big Deal," was released in 2011 and highlights her USO tour in Afghanistan. She is a frequent guest on the Grand Ole Opry and has hosted a number of award shows. She has received five Daytime Emmy nominations for her work co-hosting the talk show "Aspiring Women."
Jason Lovins Band/Render The Hearts
The Jason Lovins Band will be joined by a new band called Render The Hearts for a benefit concert at the Spring Valley High School Auditorium. Both are contemporary gospel bands.
The show will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Tickets are $10.
All proceeds from the concert will benefit Team Timberwolf's Relay for Life and their Bible Club. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the school.

Grammy-winning gospel rap
Fresh off a Grammy win for Best Gospel Album with "Gravity," Christian rapper Lecrae will bring his Higher Learning Tour 2013 to the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 10. The show will also feature fellow hip-hop artists DEE-1 and Propaganda along with comedian Bone Hampton.
