Wild Ramp offering series of food-related classes
HUNTINGTON — The Wild Ramp local food market will be offering several classes over the next two weekends. In celebration of motherhood the store will offer gift certificates and class certificates.
Cheese Making with Yellow Goat Farm: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 10-11 at The Central City Market Building, 555 14th Street West, Huntington. Cost is $75.This is a two day class. There is an optional on-farm experience at no extra charge- If you are interested in milking a goat, meet at Yellow Goat Farm before 6 p.m. You will meet the Yellow Goat herd and meet some newborn kids. In the class participants will make a Fresh Chevre, with goat milk and Snowville Creamery Milk. During the class, taste and learn about various other types of European Cheeses.
The Buzz on Bees with the Killer Bee: From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Meet on The Wild Ramp Patio. Cost $12, $10 for Friends of the Market (Eligible for Kickstarter Reward). Learn the basics of beekeeping and importance of pollinators with the Killer Bee! See the hive set up, equipment and learn the recent buzz about bees. Paul also has queen bees available to start new hives.
Wild Edibles Forage Hike with Avalon Farms: From 8 a.m. to Noon, Saturday, May 18. Cost; $25 per person. Family rate $50 up to 4 people- children 12 years and older. Please call the store to pre-register and pre-pay. Meets at Avalon Farms in Lesage, located at 7583 Nine Mile Road, Lesage. At the Farm, take a hike with Roy Ramey and Doug Baisden of Avalon Farms and discover all the food available in nature. Learn about the right way to gather and prepare wild food. The first part of the class will consist of a two to three hour hike in the woods to identify and harvest edible plants. Second, the group will learn how to prepare your wild harvest.
