Cabell County Library hosting monthly CAFE Huntington dinner tonight
HUNTINGTON — The monthly, arts-fueled community dinner called CAFE Huntington (Creative Arts Funding Endeavor) is set for tonight at library.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the meal is served at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 in the community meeting room on the third floor of the main Cabell County Public Library, 455 9th St., Huntington.
Attendees share a meal, cooked by volunteers, and at meal's end, people vote on which artists or project will get the money collected at the dinner.
Up to five artists can present their project in hopes of gaining the collective money (anywhere from $280 to $720 so far) as well as gaining needed exposure and networking to get their often fledging ideas off the ground.
CAFE has funded such things as visual art projects, Huntington Dance Theatre programs, the Huntington Music and Arts Festival, local farmers and goat-cheese makers, a local puppet comedy troupe, a local print-maker, the Tri-State Youth Orchestra, a Batik and tie-dyed T-shirt artist, a potter, a community volunteer, Stars R Us Theatre Troupe, a family-run organic farm, a regionally-traveling high school percussion ensemble, and many more.
As of Tuesday afternoon, CAFE had three presenters for the September meal — Huntington Music and Arts Festival, First Stage Theater Company and Lamb’s Gate Market, a new non-profit, fair trade store that will be run completely by volunteers and feature fair trade items from artisans working in developing countries.
Admission, as always, is $10. Tickets can be bought in advance via the website (www.cafehuntington.com) or at the door with cash, check or credit card.
