CAFE Huntington looking for more arts presenters for October
HUNTINGTON — CAFE Huntington (Creative Arts Funding Endeavor) will host its October’s CAFE meal at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29 in the community meeting room on the third floor of the main Cabell County Public Library, 455 9th St., Huntington.
CAFE is now accepting artists to present at the October CAFE dinner as well as volunteers to help cook the meal. Also, folks or perhaps do not have the time to cook can donate money to the CAFE dinner at the Wild Ramp at Heritage Station where ingredients are bought for the CAFE meals.
Admission is $10. Tickets can be bought in advance via the website (www.cafehuntington.com) or at the door with cash, check or credit card.
CAFE is also looking for more arts presenters. So far, First Stage Theatre Company has signed up to present.
Up to five artists can present their project in hopes of gaining the collective money (anywhere from $280 to $720 so far) as well as gaining needed exposure and networking to get their often fledging ideas off the ground.
At CAFE, attendees share a meal, cooked by volunteers, and at meal's end, people vote on which artists or project will get the money collected at the dinner.
CAFE has funded such things as visual art projects, Huntington Dance Theatre programs, the Huntington Music and Arts Festival, local farmers and goat-cheese makers, a local puppet comedy troupe, a local print-maker, the Tri-State Youth Orchestra, a Batik and tie-dyed T-shirt artist, a potter, a community volunteer, Stars R Us Theatre Troupe, a family-run organic farm, a regionally-traveling high school percussion ensemble, and many more.
CAFE has just set up a Twitter feed to get out the latest updates and information not just on the dinners but also about past winners and presenters. You can find CAFE on Twitter as @CafeHuntington at https://twitter.com/CafeHuntington
