Tri-State plans events for National Day of Prayer
HUNTINGTON -- The National Day of Prayer is Thursday, May 2, and organizations around the Tri-State are planning events.
Here is a look at some of the events planned:
CABELL COUNTY COURTHOUSE: The event begins with prayer from 11 a.m. The program begins at noon, which will include a proclamation from the governor; the presenting of colors by the JROTC at Huntington High School; a welcome from Mayor Steve Williams; the singing of the national anthem; music by residents of Karen's Place, an addiction recovery center in Louisa, Ky.,; and prayers led by local ministers.
WALK-FM: A tailgate party is planned by WALK-FM Radio from 5 to 7 p.m. at River Cities Community Church, 4385 U.S. 60, Huntington. It will feature hot dogs, hamburgers and side dishes from 5 to 6 p.m. At 6 p.m., motorcycle groups will go to seven areas in the county to pray and there will also be prayer from 6 to 7 p.m.
WEST VIRGINIA CAPITOL: There will be speaking, singing and praying from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower rotunda of the Capitol in Charleston.
CHESAPEAKE, OHIO: The observance begins at noon in the Chesapeake Triangle and will feature a proclamation by Chesapeake Mayor Dick Gilpin, singing of National Anthem; reciting Pledge of Allegiance, and prayers for local and national leaders.
ASHLAND: Prayers planned from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Ashland Riverfront.
KYOVA MALL: Organized by Garner Baptist Church, the prayer service will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the mall, located 10699 U.S. 60 Ashland.
OUR LADY OF BELLEFONTE HOSPITAL: A service is planned for noon Thursday, May 2, at the hospital's Serenity Garden of Hope located at the front entrance of the Russell, Ky., facility.
GREENUP COUNTY, Ky: A prayer walk is planned from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. starting at the Bridges Christian Church parking lot at 1402 Kenwood Blvd. Russell, Ky.
