TIPS program provides free bicycle helmets to children
BARBOURSVILLE -- Young people visiting Chick-fil-A locations in Barbousrville on April 26 not only left the restaurants with full tummies, but they also got an important safety tool they could take home.
Children at the restaurants locations along Melody Farms Road and the Huntington Mall were provided free bicycle helmets with their meals, thanks to an initiative by St. Mary's Medical Center's Transportation Injury Prevention and Safety program, or TIPS.
TIPS is designed to educate youth from kindergarten to 12th grade with a goal preventing injury from improper and unsafe use in or around motorized and non-motorized recreation vehicles and automobiles, as well as other forms of transportation.
St. Mary's has offered the TIPS program since 2005 in cooperation with the Nick J. Rahall II Appalachian Transportation Institute.
