DANCE: Jimmy Stevens is the music host of continuous ballroom dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Underwood Senior Center. The cost is $10.

MUSICAL: Wayne United Methodist Church presents "Unspeakable Joy," a Christmas musical, begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, and 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.

CONCERT: "The Reindeer Whisperer" directed by Gina Gill is presented at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Hite Saunders Elementary School.

CONDOLENCES: A long-time educator and aide in helping others into that field by funding scholarships and research passed away Nov. 7 at the age of 99. Shelba Glenn Pew, a Woodlands Community resident, graduated from Marshall University's Teacher's Program and Duke University. She also was a lieutenant commander in the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during World War II and received the MU Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award in 2010. Sympathy to her cousins, Margie Leap and her son, David, also of Huntington, as well as other family and friends during this time of grief.

LAST: The last performance of "2013 - Christmas Is ..." directed by Sherry White, is presented by Renaissance at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church.

MEMBERS: Two new members have been added to the membership of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Welcomed into the congregation on Nov. 3 were Josh Gibson and Suzana Gibson.

MIX: A "funky blues stew" featuring Biscuit Miller and the Mix is from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Charleston Brewing Co. Cover charge is $10.

TROOPER: Nathan E. Lawson, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, is the Trooper of the Year at the Portsmouth, Ohio, post, based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment to others, enthusiastic work attitude and cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public. Joining the highway patrol in 2001, this trooper has served at Batavia and Georgetown posts before transferring to the Portsmouth post. He, wife and three children reside in Otway, Ohio.

DINNER: Entertainment by Stephen Salyers, singer/songwriter and Franklin Furnace, Ohio, native, Marti Dodson and Bryan White is featured during the 11th annual "Sounds of Christmas" benefit concert dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Historic Transportation Depot, 99 15th St., Ashland. The event, hosted by Stephen Salyers Charities Foundation, also includes wine, dinner and food by Elite Catering. A silent auction hosted by Cledus T. Judd, Judy Eaton and Clint McElroy is also available.

SONG: There's only one song to be sung today for Pastor Jim Franklin ... and that's the birthday song. This special radio host of Saturday night's "Songs in the Night" on WEMM-FM for many years continues blessing people of all ages with his encouraging, caring, loving and Christian way. Although he's no longer a Tri-State resident, he remains close ... in my heart. May his special day be filled with many cards, phone calls and surprises, as his year be filled with good health, happiness, continued radio time and God's many blessings.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAYS: Doug Dye, Jennifer Shively, Jessica Haas, Jennifer Shively crosses the mid-50 mark to 56, Kegan Marshall and Kasey Allen McComas, twin brothers, hit the double toothpick at 11, Alexandra Mills, Vickie Hicks, Joshua Johnson, Meranda Woodard is legal at 21, Ellen Walker, Gerald Payton, Macy Grace Daniel, Kayla Marie Barnett turns the second of her last teen years at 18, Gracie Martin.

TODAY'S ANNIVERSARIES: Gary and Linda Daniels, Mike and Brenda Cooper.

CHUCKLE: One of the students told her teacher she was happy because her family had got their Christmas tree the night before. "Is it real?" the teacher asked. "Yes," the student replied, then paused for a second before continuing. "Actually, I don't know. We haven't taken it out of the box yet."
