Marshall among recipients to receive award

HUNTINGTON -- Huntington area residents were among those recognized at the annual meeting of the American Red Cross Blood Services, Greater Alleghenies Region last month in Morgantown.

The winners were from the following counties: Cabell, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Monongalia, Ohio, Roane and Wood counties in West Virginia; Jackson County, Ohio; Carter County, Ky.; and Beaver, Cambria, Centre, Somerset and Westmoreland counties in Pennsylvania.

Those recognized include:

THE AMERICAN RED CROSS CLUB, Marshall University received the University Spirit Award for sponsoring 18 blood drives and an increase of collections by more than 100 units over the past two years.

CHUCK WHISMAN of Huntington received the Unsung Heroes Award for volunteering for the past five years at the Red Cross.

HAZEL JENKINS of Cross Lanes, W.Va., received the All-Star Volunteer Award for volunteering for more than 22 years.

GOLDEN CORRAL RESTAURANTS in Huntington, Charleston, and Parkersburg received the Community Partnership Award for allowing the restaurant to be used for volunteer recognition luncheons.
