Power of the Purse announces its annual mini grant recipients

HUNTINGTON -- The Power of the Purse has announced the recipients of its annual mini grants.

The grants are given to groups that support the goals of Power of the Purse, which is to improve and enhance the lives of women and children in the community. The organization is a women's leadership group associated with United Way of the River Cities which creates a network of women who strengthen the community through focused investment of their time, talent and resources.

The following grants were approved:

Blessings in a Backpack: Feeding children from Central City Elementary on the weekends during the school year.

Dress for Success: Providing funds for bins to store clothing so items don't mildew or mold.

Path to the Cure: Supporting women's health.

Prestera: Improvements to the women's recreation area and play equipment for children who mothers are in recovery.

In addition to these grants, Power of the Purse is continuing its two projects:

Project Fairy Godmother: Providing hair styling, makeup and manicures prior to prom for girls who otherwise would not have access to these services (referral only).

Keepin' It Fresh: Providing basic hygiene items to the counselors at the middle schools to distribute to the girls as needed.
