Annual March for Babies planned for Saturday, Sept. 29, in Huntington
HUNTINGTON -- The local March of Dimes March for Babies is planned for Saturday, Sept. 29, beginning at the Ritter Park 12th Street shelter. Registration is at 10 a.m., and the march begins at 11 a.m.
The annual event is a fundraiser to help fund research to understand and prevent premature birth, educating women about risk reduction, assisting health professionals in evaluating patient risks, and advocating to expand access to health care.
According to a press release from the March of Dimes, one in eight babies is born prematurely in the United States. Premature birth can lead to long-term health problems and lifelong disabilities and is the leading cause of death during the first month of life.
