Quilts and Wall Hangings on display at Charleston's State Capitol Complex

Jun. 17, 2013 @ 12:15 AM

CHARLESTON -- The West Virginia Division of Culture and History's annual exhibition, Quilts and Wall Hangings 2013, was unveiled in the Great Hall and the south wing of the Culture Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston.

On display through Sept. 2, the juried exhibition features 62 quilts and wall hangings representing the talents of West Virginia quilters including many from Huntington and the surrounding area.

The exhibition includes work by 57 quilters from 23 counties. Winners were selected in four categories: pieced quilts, appliqued quilts, mixed/other quilts and wall hangings.

"The quilt exhibition in the Great Hall is one of our most popular and colorful exhibitions," said Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith. "Visitors enjoy the fine handiwork of West Virginians whose creativity and appreciation of tradition are showcased in the quilts and wall hangings we feature."

Beverly Fine, a National Quilting Association Certified Judge from Haymarket, Va., served as judge for this year's exhibition. She recently co-authored the book Guide to Judged Quilt Shows, available through www.nqa.org or Amazon.

The Culture Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
