Southern Living highlights West Virginia resort as unique getaway
FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — The December 2012 issue of Southern Living is devoted to all things Christmas and Southern.
In the Traveler Best of the South section, the magazine’s travel writers highlight twelve unique experience gifts that they say “...don’t fit under the tree...that’ll have them thanking you for years to come.” A whitewater rafting adventure with Adventures On The Gorge is included with experiences like a BBQ Boot Camp in Georgia and an offshore sailing school at Captiva Island in Florida.
The magazine says the West Virginia adventure campus is perfect for “adrenaline junkies who just don’t get the idea of lounging in a hammock”. They note that a gift trip here includes whitewater rafting, zipline canopy tours and the opportunity to round out a trip with hiking, fishing and horseback riding. “The envelope under the tree might be a small one, but the adventure on the river and in the mountains of the New River Gorge is as big as a present can get,” said Dave Arnold, managing partner of Adventures On The Gorge. “We’ve seen an increase in travel packages as gifts here and our experience is that those who receive an adventure-package gift love every minute of the time they spend here.”
