NUTCRACKER: Here in the Tri-State, the now-annual performance of the “Great Russian Nutcracker” by the Moscow Ballet at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, has become the new tradition.
WINTER ADVENTURE: The U.S. Forest Service, which closed caves and mines in the southern and eastern U.S. in 2009, continues to close caves out west to try to stop the spread of white nose syndrome, a white fungus that has now killed an estimated 5.5 million bats in the U.S. since 2006. However, Carter Caves has come up with a decontamination plan of action that is re-opening some wild caving during its fourth annual Winter Adventure Weekend, set for Jan. 25-27.
