Diana Hamilton Cowell (standing) with four of her siblings, from left to right, Marie Hamilton-Alvarez, Patricia Hamilton Collins, Richard Hamilton and Bart Hamilton. The date of the photo is July 8, 2008, and they are in front of a monument erected by the town of LePlessis in Normandy, France, honoring soldiers of the 90th Division who liberated the town during battles fought there from July 3 to 12, 1944. Their father, Lt. Col. Edward S. Hamilton, gave the dedication speech for that monument on June 6, 1994, during the 50th Anniversary of D-Day celebrations. The family brought part of his ashes back to France for final burial in town of Periers nearby, at which time the town of Periers also named a town square after him, Espace Col. Ed Hamilton. Hamilton was a hero of WWII. The siblings honored his last wishes by traveling to France from Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, California and West Virginia to complete the final task of burial of his ashes.
