Local P.E.O. members attend state convention
HUNTINGTON -- Members from three Huntington chapters of P.E.O. (philanthropic educational organization) attended the 46th Annual West Virginia State P.E.O. Convention on April 25-26, at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.Va., according to a release from the local chapters.
Chapters E, I and M each were represented by at least two official delegates: Chapter E, Maudie Karickhoff and Dortha Williamson; Chapter I, Cynthia Beal and Becky Elliot; Chapter M, Ila Lee Drown and Shirley Dudley. Others attending were: Harriet Tucker, Ruth Gilbert, and Pamela McCoy. State President Kay Lamb presided over the event. Barbara Andes, International President, of Fullerton, Calif., was the guest of honor.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving educational opportunities for women worldwide. There are four projects maintained by P.E.O: the Educational Loan Fund, the Program for Continuing Education, the International Peace Scholarship and the Scholar Award. The organization also supports Cottey College, a two year college for women located in Nevada, Mo.
P.E.O. Sisterhood was founded in 1869, and there are approximately 1,000 members in West Virginia.
