WILLOW WOOD — According to the National Safety Council, in 2004, the number of deaths as a result of motor vehicle accidents was 44,933. The number of deaths from accidental falls, drowning, electrocution, fire, forces of nature, and other non-transportation accidents was 63,959.

Those are just a few of the alarming statistics about death due to accidents and injury. That is why the Safety Adventures Committee is once again having a Safety Adventures Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.

It is important that people learn about ways they can help create a safe environment in their travels, at home, at work and how they live their everyday lives. This event is a way to help educate the public on how to they can do this. The event is free and open to the public. There will be door prizes, food, health screenings and demonstrations of various safety issues throughout the day.

Presenters include: the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department; Ohio State Highway Patrol; SEOEMS; Rome Volunteer Fire Department; Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department; Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste District; South Hills Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation; Lawrence County Emergency Management Agency; Lawrence County Health Department; Lawrence County Farm Bureau; Lawrence Soil and Water Conservation District; Symmes Creek Restoration Committee; Cabell Huntington Hospital; and Collins Career Center.
