HANGING ROCK, Ohio – B.F. Iron & Metal of Ashland has applied for a permit from the Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build a barge cleaning and repair facility along the Ohio River near the Lawrence-Scioto county line.

The dock would be located between the river and County Road 1A (old U.S. 52). It would be across County Road 1A from the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine.

B.F. Iron & Metal would not fleet or moor barges at the facility, as each barge would be hoisted onto land upon arrival for cleaning and/or repair. No more than two barges would be delivered at a time. A dock would be constructed just upstream of the facility and would used to drydock barges for cleaning and/or repair.

Any person who has an interest that may be adversely affected by the proposed work may request a public hearing. Requests should be submitted in writing to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ATTN: CELRH-OR-F Public Notice 2006-00026-OHR, 502 8th St., Huntington WV 25701-2070 before April 21.
