Recalled beef was found in Tri-State schools
HUNTINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service released the complete list of schools and districts affected by the Hallmark/ Westland Meat Packing Co. beef recall in February.
Among the school systems that received the meat through the School Food Authorities were Cabell and Logan counties in West Virginia, as well as Chesapeake school district, South Point Elementary, Portsmouth City Schools, Wheelersburg Schools and Meigs Local School District in Ohio.
There were no details released on how much recalled meat each school had, or how much recalled meat was disposed of from individual school districts. Overall, about 143 million pounds of beef was recalled, making it the largest beef recall ever in the nation.
Cabell County had 19 cases of the recalled taco meat.
The meat, which originated in a California slaughterhouse, was recalled after undercover video revealed regulatory violations. There were no reports of illness, according to the USDA.
