RACELAND, Ky. -- The Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Weight Watchers family program is now in Raceland and Russell schools.

In February, OLBH initiated a program targeting third, fourth and fifth graders at risk for type II diabetes because of their weight. It began at Greysbranch Elementary School and has been expanded to include third, fourth and fifth graders from Raceland and Russell elementary schools.

The project, funded by a $83,668 grant from the Bon Secours Health System Mission Fund, will identify up to 50 overweight and obese students with the highest risk for developing type II diabetes. Representatives from Weight Watchers of West Virginia will provide the students with Weight Watchers Family, a pilot program focused on parents and caregivers with the goal of helping them adopt healthier habits and attitudes.

The OLBH Foundation will provide free gifts and prizes as part of the program.

More information on the program is available by calling (606) 836-3900.
