HARPERS FERRY — Members of the NAACP’s West Virginia chapter are gathering in Harpers Ferry for the group’s annual convention.

Issues on the agenda include racial profiling and efforts to close the achievement gap in the educational system. A meeting with state lawmakers on a variety of legislative issues also is scheduled.

State NAACP President Kenneth Hale said the group wants to see what progress has been made since a state law was passed several years ago aimed at closing the educational achievement gap.

The convention began Friday and continues Saturday.
