HUNTINGTON -- A fire damaged at least one room of a single-story residence at 934 27th St. on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The Huntington man who lived in the home reportedly left shortly before the fire started, according to Terry Berry, deputy chief of the Huntington Fire Department.
"At the time, it doesn't appear to be suspicious," Berry said.
A burned mattress on the lawn of the home came from what appeared to be the bedroom/living room area of the residence, Berry said.
"The house was very, very cluttered," he said.
He said firefighters had the fire contained within minutes, keeping it to the one room.
Berry said the cause of the fire was unknown, but the incident remained under investigation.
Two Huntington Fire Department engines, one rescue truck, a ladder truck and Cabell County EMS responded to the scene around 1:30 p.m.
A portion of 27th Street was blocked during response to the call.
