Sting nets 5 arrests

May 29, 2008 @ 11:53 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Five men, including one who claimed he was a pastor for a church in the Buffalo area of Wayne County, were arrested Thursday on charges of soliciting prostitution.

The arrests occurred during a two-hour sting that targeted men who tried to solicit an undercover female officer, said Sgt. J.T. Combs of the Huntington Police Department. The two-hour sting occurred in Fairfield West and near the intersection of 4th Street and 6th Avenue.

Arrested were: Cody Hinkle, 19, of Chesapeake; Michael Rogers, 35, of Huntington; Henry Clark, 46, of Huntington; Ernest Smith, 54, of Barboursville; and Calvin Perry, 75, of Kenova. All of the men were charged with soliciting a prostitute. Rogers also was charged with indecent exposure, Combs said.

After Perry was arrested, he told police that he was a pastor at a church in the Buffalo area of Wayne County, Combs said. Perry did not say what church he pastored, Combs said.

Combs said he was surprised with the number of arrests, given that the sting occurred midday Thursday.

"Several others were in the area circling like vultures," he said. "If you want to take a chance at coming out and being embarrassed and arrested, then have at it, because we will be there."
