Green Party sues to get on Ohio’s November ballot
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Green Party’s presidential candidate has filed a lawsuit arguing she should be placed on Ohio’s November ballot.
Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner in federal district court in Columbus.
The party’s petition to be placed on the ballot was rejected this month because it did not have the 5,000 signatures required in a Brunner directive regarding minor parties.
The Green Party cites a July ruling by federal judge Edmund Sargus that paved the way for the Libertarian Party and its candidates to be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot. Sargus ruled that Brunner’s requirements for a minor party to be placed on the ballot were too strict and were likely unconstitutional.
