Boil water advisory lifted

June 28, 2009 @ 10:35 PM

HUNTINGTON -- A boil water advisory for Huntington-area residents was lifted about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to officials with West Virginia American Water.

Results of testing confirmed that water quality meets drinking water standards, according to the release.

The advisory impacted customers in Ohio American Water's Lawrence District, which includes Chesapeake and South Point.

The advisory came as the result of a major water line break in the area of 24th Street and 1st Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Georgios Alexandropoulos, a manager at Fat Patty's, 1935 3rd Ave., said his restaurant noticed a slight drop in customers Sunday afternoon.

"We had to shut down early the first evening (of the water main break)," he said. "The boil water advisory has been a little inconvenient. All in all, we've made our way through it."

Miranda Gagnon, a shift leader at Bob Evans, 606 3rd Ave., said her staff served the normal after-church rush on Sunday.

"We had signs posted on our doors of what beverages we could offer," she said. The restaurant served coffee, Coke, Diet Coke, milk and chocolate milk until the advisory was lifted.

"(The boil water advisory) made us lose all the ice in our ice machines. We're buying bags of ice and bottles of water."
