West Virginia veterinarian headed to Beijing Olympics

March 02, 2008 @ 05:57 AM

CHARLESTON (AP) — A West Virginia veterinarian is heading to the Olympics this summer to work at equestrian events in Hong Kong.

Moundsville native Heather Stone will deal with the transportation and quarantine of more than 200 horses from participating countries. Her main task will be monitoring the horses for infections and disease.

Two veterinarians were chosen to be part of an international team. Her contract is with the Hong Kong Departure of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation.

Stone is a graduate of Bethany College and she owns Shamrock Stables in Bethany. She calls being part of the Olympic Games a lifelong goal.

Stone will work in Hong Kong for three months starting in July. The Beijing Olympics begin on Aug. 8.
