HUNTINGTON — Alvie Qualls is in good condition this morning at St. Mary’s Medical Center, one day after voters ousted the longtime magistrate from office.
Qualls, 78, received 2,305 votes and finished 16th out of 19 candidates. He received 3.09 percent of the vote.
Qualls was admitted into St. Mary’s Medical Center this past weekend. He was temporarily suspended by the state Supreme Court of Appeals in March. That moved followed a Judicial Hearing Board’s determination that Qualls sexually harassed co-workers and is incompetent to hold office.
Qualls disputes all of the allegations. He said he is physically and mentally able to serve Cabell County. He spent $2,676.65 on his campaign and encouraged his critics to come in court and watch his proceedings.
He has served as a magistrate for at least 26 years.
