FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The state Division of Highways has awarded the first contract for the Gateway Connector Highway that will link downtown Fairmont with Interstate 79.
Mountaineer Contractors Inc. of Kingwood won the $6.13 million contract for grading and drainage work.
DOH District 4 manager Greg Phillips said Thursday that the state hopes to award two more contracts later this year.
About a third of the project has not yet been funded.
Phillips said work on the first contract is expected to begin in late June.
