Murder suspect jailed on violation
HUNTINGTON -- A Cabell County murder suspect found himself back in jail Wednesday facing a home confinement violation.
Charles Ray Blevins, 21, was booked into the Western Regional Jail at 4:23 p.m. Wednesday. He was detained without bond.
Before the most recent arrest, Blevins and a co-defendant were among four Cabell County murder defendants free on bond. Three were on home confinement as part of their release.
Blevins and Donnie Evans, 24, are charged with murder in the Feb. 26, 2007, shooting death of Travis Huff. The 26-year-old from Glenwood died at a mobile home located at 98 Broadmoor Drive, just off East Pea Ridge Road near Barboursville.
Both men are scheduled for trial Sept. 23. A motion hearing is scheduled for Monday.
West Virginia State Police testified the suspects gave different stories about what motivated Huff's death. Evans reportedly blamed it on a cocaine transaction, while Blevins said it was related to Huff stealing $1,500.
Blevins' attorney, David D. Perry, has not disputed his client's involvement, but he has argued the murder charge should be dismissed. He has said Blevins was intoxicated when the incident occurred.
Both men were indicted in May 2007. There have been at least four trial dates set in the case.
