September 08, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Local groups and churches are planning events to recognize first responders in rememberance of 9/11.

The ThunderTones Chorus, in cooperation with the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District, will present a community celebration to recognize and honor the heroism and contributions of the local first responders.

The event "Let Freedom Sing" begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Ritter Park Amphitheatre. The opening ceremonies will include a tribute to the sacrifices made by local first responders.

The musical portion of the event will feature patriotic, inspirational and good old-fashioned American music presented by the ThunderTones and River Magic choruses from Huntington, Treblemakers from Gallipolis, Ohio, Singing Kernels from Ashland and several more quartets.

There is no charge for admission, and residents of the Huntington Tri-State area are encouraged to attend and show their support and appreciation for the police, fire and EMS personnel. First responder vehicles and information booths will be in the amphitheatre parking lot beginning at 6 p.m. Refreshments may be purchased in the amphitheatre, and picnic baskets and lawn chairs are welcome.

For more information contact the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District at 304-696-5954 or the ThunderTones Chorus at 304-302-NOTE.
