231 stolen cemetery vases recovered
More than 200 vases stolen from a cemetery over the past couple weeks have been recovered at a Beckley recycling center.
In all, about 300 vases were taken from headstones at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department found 231 vases at Mountaineer Converter and Recycling shortly after being notified of the thefts. The rest are still missing.
Deputy R.R. White says information gathered at the recycling center led investigators to 40-year-old Melissa Morton of Midway. Morton was charged Thursday with transfer and receiving of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a felony.
A phone number for Morton, who is free on bond, couldn’t be located and the magistrate court office had no listing for a lawyer.
More arrests are expected.
