Ohio has given an additional $1 million to a group of nonprofit organizations trying to help fight off foreclosure.
The 11 nonprofit groups have kept 515 low-income and middle class families in their homes by providing no-interest loans from $3,000 to $5,000. It’s a bright spot in a state that is one of the hardest hit in the U.S. mortgage foreclosure crisis.
The state Office of Housing and Community Partnerships gave the $1 million to the program that targets low-income homeowners, which has saved 400 homes from foreclosure since it began in 2006.
The Ohio Housing Finance Agency is providing $3.1 million over three years to the program targeting middle class homeowners, which has saved 115 homes since it began in 2007.
