City to auction off 24 vehicles next week
HUNTINGTON — Looking for a bargain on a car? Need parts?
The city of Huntington will auction off two dozen vehicles on Friday, Aug. 22, that have either been retired from service or seized by the Huntington Police Department during criminal investigations.
The lot of 24 vehicles includes everything from a 1971 Hahn fire truck to a 1990 Jaguar XJ6. The Jaguar is one of six vehicles that were seized by law enforcement. Other seized vehicles include a 1990 Nissan 240 SX, 1993 Lincoln, 1994 Cadillac, 1995 Lincoln and 1995 Cadillac SLS.
Several pickup trucks and Ford Crown Victorias also are on the auction block.
Purchasing director Darryl Miller said the city conducts auctions every few years to get rid of vehicles it no longer needs. All proceeds from the auctions go back into the city’s general fund, he said.
“Sometimes, the money goes back to the departments the vehicles came from,” Miller said. “For instance, the police department might request that the money from the seized vehicles go back to the drug unit.”
The auction begins at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the city garage, located at 2nd Avenue and 5th Street. Miller recommends buyers arrive an hour early to register.
Buyers can get a look at the vehicles before the auction from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Monday, Aug. 18, and Thursday, Aug. 21, at the city garage.
The city will accept sealed bids in advance of the auction, but they must contain at least 15 percent of the bid price. Sealed bid proposals must be submitted to Miller’s office, located in the basement of City Hall, 800 5th Ave., by 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, or mailed to City of Huntington, Director of Purchasing, 800 5th Ave., Huntington, WV 25701.
