Race to benefit Marcum Terrace playground

HUNTINGTON — On Aug. 23, Crew Community Church will sponsor the second annual Crew 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Marcum Terrace playground project.


The church has partnered with United Way of the River Cities as a part of the United Way Day of Action projects.


The race will begin at 8 a.m. at the 900 block of 3rd Avenue in the Pullman Square plaza, followed by the walk at 9 a.m.


The starting line is on 3rd Avenue in front of Pullman Square. Runners will begin at Pullman Square and continue down 3rd Avenue to 20th Street and across to 5th Avenue. The course continues down 5th Ave. to 7th St. then back to 3rd Ave. returning to Pullman Square.


Race participants will receive an event T-shirt and an official race time. Those taking part in the walk will receive a T-shirt and be eligible for door prizes. Cash prizes will be given to the top two overall finishers of each gender. First place will receive $100 and second will earn $50. First place prizes of $25 also will be awarded for each age division and the team challenge winner.

An awards ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.

Registration will also be available at the Pullman Plaza on race day before 7:45 a.m.
