Planned Parenthood in Ohio tries new ad campaign
CINCINNATI (AP) — Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio has started a campaign called the “A-Word” to tell people the organization stands for more than abortion.
The group’s Web site says the real “A-words” are abstinence, access, affordability and advocacy. CEO Becki Brenner says abortions account for about 2 percent of the group’s work.
She says Planned Parenthood also offers cancer screenings, education about teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections and prenatal care.
Paula Westwood, executive director of Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati, says the “A-Word” newspaper ads are misleading and that Planned Parenthood actually encourages sexual activity.
The campaign comes as U.S. Rep. Steve Chabot of Cincinnati is trying to prevent Planned Parenthood from moving a clinic near several suburban schools.
