Putnam to open dog park Monday
HURRICANE, W.Va. — Dog lovers and their pets have a lot to look forward to in Putnam County this coming Monday.
Valley Park will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1, to celebrate the opening of the county's first dog park. This is the first of two dog parks being constructed in the area. A second is being built at the county park in Eleanor and is scheduled to open on Oct. 4.
At a cost of $3,651 for both parks, the grass-filled play areas will have two separated fenced-in chambers, allowing owners to let their animals run free and play without the need for a leash. Local donors have expedited the completion, with Karen and Joe Haynes donating $1,000 and the Hurricane Animal Hospital donating $500.
Following Monday’s ribbon cutting, owners are invited to take their dogs to the Third Annual Dog Swim at Waves of Fun, located at Valley Park. The event is to take place from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the wave pool to close out the pool's final day of operation.
If you're looking for some way to help Putnam Parks while recycling at the same time, you are encouraged to drop off your plastic shopping bags at the park office, where they will be placed in dog clean-up boxes throughout the parks for owners to use in cleaning up pet waste.
For more information about the dog parks, call Scott Williamson at 304-562-0518 or Karen Haynes at 304-757-7584.
