Ohio man who claimed he had gun on airplane fined
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man who boarded a Skybus Airlines flight in January and threatened other passengers by suggesting he had a gun has been fined $10,000.
A judge on Thursday also ordered Todd Tornstrom to pay $3,600 in restitution to the airline.
U.S. District Judge John Holschuh in Columbus also said Tornstrom must write an apology letter and send copies to the plane’s crew and the 134 passengers who were on board that day.
Prosecutors say Tornstrom had been drinking during a weather delay before the flight from Columbus to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
They say he was unhappy that he was told to sit in the back of the plane and that when the plane took off, he said he was a federal agent and that he had a gun and enough bullets for everyone on board.
The pilot decided to return to Columbus after Tornstrom couldn’t produce an identification badge.
