Salvation Army has tax credit vouchers for donors
HUNTINGTON — The Salvation Army in Huntington has received $44,745 in West Virginia Neighborhood Investment Program tax credit vouchers, and it will distribute the vouchers to contributing businesses and individuals.
Contributors to the Salvation Army can reduce certain West Virginia taxes.
The West Virginia Legislature sets aside $2 million each year in state tax credits for the Neighborhood Investment Program. Businesses and individuals who contribute to NIP-approved organizations, such as the Salvation Army, are eligible to receive up to 50 percent of the contributed amount in the form of state tax credits. Donors may use the credits to reduce total tax liability for the Corporate Net Income Tax, the Business Franchise Tax or the Personal Income Tax, according to a release from the Salvation Army.
Contributions can be made in the form of cash, personal property, real estate, stock and in-kind professional services. The minimum eligible donation is $500, and the maximum is $200,000.
