Legislature gets peek at FBI fingerprint center
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The FBI is offering West Virginia lawmakers a look at one of the crown jewels in the fight against crime.
As part of the Legislature's visit to Bridgeport as part of this month's series of interim meetings, several joint committees are touring the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services center.
The Clarksburg complex houses a massive clearinghouse for evidence analysis that aids law enforcement agencies across the country.
The center is perhaps best known for its automated fingerprint-identification system. It also offers law enforcement instant gun background checks, oversees the National Crime Information Center and provides statistical analysis to agencies in all 50 states.
The center has been in West Virginia since 1995.
