Lawmakers to visit long-awaited veterans' home
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- This month's session of legislative interim meetings will include a tour of the long-delayed nursing home for West Virginia's military veterans.
The Clarksburg facility was supposed to open more than three years ago. But it instead ran into construction setbacks and problems meeting licensing requirements.
Only on the third try did the $26 million home pass inspection from the state Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certification.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs approved the 120-bed facility in July.
There now are at least 16 residents living in the home. Three different joint interim committees plan to visit the facility Monday, including those assigned to veteran and senior issues.
